Kick-Off Contest: YA Giveaway

Tuesday, June 1, 2010 Laura Fitzgerald

Some of you may be old readers of my former blog, and hopefully some of you are new from parts unknown.  But to all of you, welcome!

So how shall we kick things off? How about some free books to start you on your summer reading?  Does that sound good?

Well it better because check out the fabulous prizes I've collected for you:

One lucky winner will receive a dozen YA novels.  The prize pack contains a mix of both hardcovers and ARC's.  There is something for everyone in this prize pack; from paranormal romance to contemporary to dystopian.

How to Enter:

We'll be using a very simple point system in which each point gains you one entry ticket for the giveaway.
+1 Answer one of the questions:  "Who is your favorite author?" or "What is your post-apocalyptic society survival skill?" (Or both if you like.  Points will only be awarded once.)
+1 Link to my contest from your blog (provide link)
+1 Link to my contest from your Twitter or Google Buzz (provide link)

Please post your answers and links as a comment to this post.

This contest is only open to residents of the U.S. and will end on Friday, June 18th.  The winner will be announced by June 25th on the blog and I will contact you then.  The winner will be chosen at random by means of random.org.

Good luck to all of you.  And I look forward to getting to know you.

/End of Line

Looking forward to reading your blog!

Favorite author: Brandon Sanderson! This was a hard decision, but I decided to pick him because I've loved every one of his books. Plus he seems like a pretty cool guy.

Post-apocalyptic society survival skill: Always have a weapon. Knives are good, 'cause they're easily concealed, and you don't have to worry about reloading them. Matches are handy, too. I mean, if there're zombies or vampires, or a convenient propane tank that hasn't lost all its gas, a match can cause enough mayhem to allow easy escape.

Just make sure you don't catch yourself on fire--or blow yourself up--in the process.

Favourite post-apocalyptic society survival skill: tough call. I'm gonna go with botanical knowledge/foraging, because if I can identify plants, I have food & medicine. If this is a dystopian society, though, I'm gonna go with being able to make crap. Construction.

Post-apocalyptic survival skill? I'm a good shot, with both firearms and a bow. I also like to think I could help keep the people around me entertained. Have to keep morale high somehow.

My favorite author is most likely Megan McCafferty. I just absolutely adore her writing style, and she is someone that I look up to when I think of my own writing. If I could ever write a book half as good as just one of hers, I would die a happy girl. :)

I think a dozen more books would collapse my poor bookshelf, but I'm going to risk it anyway!

I love the post-apoc survival skill question. I think mine would have to do with somehow knowing someone everywhere I go. Like running into my friend from Tampa in the Chicago airport on my way home to STL. It seems to me having friends everywhere you go would be useful.

I'll organize the few people left alive (and use that to take over the world... Bwa hahaha!)

I'm not sure if this would be a post-apocalyptic skill or not, but I'd sure be pleased to have it - shooting lasers from my hands. It would solve so much - starting fires, keeping zombies away, hunting, etc. Not likely I'd have this skill, but if there can be zombies, I can have laser-shooting powers. It's only fair.

My favourite author...Oh, that's a toughie, I love so many. I have two favourites, Simon Holt and Rachel Vincent. I think, for your question, it'd be Rachel Vincent. :D

It's still Friday! I hope I can still enter! :)

+1 I really love Roald Dahl and Maureen Johnson, although there are several others. Survival skill? Coffee. Used to make things smell better, and caffeinate, for optimal running-away-from-zombies ability.

+1 Aaaand LINK TIME! http://twitter.com/theknittingnerd/status/16514391397
